The fourth industrial revolution has arrived, along with an emerging need for new skills. Digital skills have become a pre-requisite for the future workforce. Children don’t just need to be digitally literate; they also need high-level digital skills, such as an understanding of programming and coding.Some studies suggest that up to 65% of children entering primary school today are going to train for jobs that will no longer exist by the time they finish their formal education. It therefore becomes a necessity for children to develop higher-level skills, known to encourage under-represented groups to pursue advanced ICT education and enter STEM fields.

## Ericsson’s Digital Lab programme helps students gain the skills they need to succeed in the future workplace.

It is an innovative education programme aimed at children to support them in their first encounters with the world of programming and new technologies. The objective of the Digital Lab programme is to inspire children and provide them with the courage to approach technology and problem-solving by creating an open atmosphere for learning, where instructors share their love of code, thus inspiring children to participate in future technological studies.

## Ericsson partnered with Wot-If? Trust to bring this innovative digital skills programme to youth in Diepsloot, Johannesburg, South Africa.

In 2020, the programme's participants went through more than 30 hours of hands-on training, learning about programming, robotics and game development.


## In partnership with Bharti Foundation, Ericsson deployed the Digital Lab programme for students at the Satya Bharti Adarsh Senior Secondary School in Jhaneri, Ludhiana, India.

The programme aimed to improve their education and employment prospects across STEM. About 300 students benefited from the programme, which has since been expanded to 4 additional schools in India.Ericsson, through its overarching education initiative Connect To Learn, is committed to the EDISON Alliance’s 1 Billion Lives Challenge to positively impact 1 million children and youth by 2025 by providing access to digital learning and skill development programmes.
